A 51-year-old man and woman are in critical condition after a dramatic accident where their vehicle ran off the end of a road and landed on Highway 25 in Terrebonne, in the region of Lanaudière.

The accident happened around 10:50 p.m. Friday evening.

The vehicle was travelling west on St-Louis street in Terrebonne when, for some reason, the driver failed to stop at the end of a cul-de-sac, according to police who were called to the scene.

The car travelled over a concrete wall, passed through three lanes of Highway 25 North before landing on the median, finally coming to a stop on Highway 25 South. It remains to be seen if speed was the cause of the crash.

The vehicle also struck a lamp post, damaging power lines and causing power outages in the area that still affected 1,142 customers as of 6:45 a.m. Saturday morning.

Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The “jaws of life” were needed to pry the victims away from the wreckage.
