“Missing python” posters might have provoked panic in Hull’s Hautes-Plains neighbourhood.
But Gatineau police say the snake, which is less than a meter long, isn’t likely to attack.
In fact, it’s a member of a mainly nocturnal species that rolls up tight when feeling threatened or afraid – hence its common name, ball python.
That said, if someone spots the snake, they shouldn’t try picking it up because “this species does not particularly like to be touched.”
The snake’s owner contacted animal control Friday to report it had been missing for several days, so police made sure it wouldn’t pose a threat to the public.
On Monday, police learned posters offering a reward for the missing snake had gone up, “which caused concern.”
Anyone who finds the python is asked to call 819-246-0222.
