The long weekend crowds in search of some green space and water were out in force Saturday.

Before noon parking lots were full at the Lac Phillippe sector of Gatineau Park, a popular beach inside the park, the National Capital Commission said.

Earlier, the NCC reported lots were full around Meech Lake in Chelsea.

On recent weekends — during one of the hottest summers on record and one in which the pandemic is forcing many people to vacation at home — traffic has been high at area beaches.

Residents at Constance Bay have complained that parked cars lining the road near beach access points has been causing a safety hazard. Officials in Wakefield have had to ask visitors to respect their surroundings.

Ottawa Public Health reported Saturday that all four city-run beaches are in operation.

Gatineau Park has had people directing traffic and lots throughout the park have frequently filled up.
