A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries early Sunday after he was attacked by two men, put in a vehicle, then assaulted again when he jumped out in a bid to flee, Ottawa police said.

Patrol officers were called to a disturbance at the intersection of Murray and Cumberland streets at about 12:45 a.m. They found two suspects and arrested them without incident, police said.

Two men, aged 31 and 35, are charged with kidnapping, robbery, assault causing bodily harm and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

The 31-year-old man, of no fixed address, is also charged with possession of a weapon. The 35-year-old man, who has an Ottawa address, is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

Both appeared in court Sunday.
