The discovery Thursday afternoon of a grenade in an apartment in Brossard forced the evacuation of the building and a major police operation that lasted for eight hours.
Longueuil police were called to the building on Trahan Ave. around 2 p.m. after receiving a report that a suspicious object had been found in one of the units.
About 150 residents were ordered out of their homes and were only able to return at 10 p.m.
The Sûreté du Québec bomb squad finally removed the grenade from the apartment and the security perimeter, which covered several blocks, was lifted.
Longueuil police provided no details on why the grenade was in the apartment other than to say it had not been placed there recently and there was no evidence the weapon was linked to any criminal activity.
